Two branches, merged into one school.
Dajia Elementary's origins trace back to March 1922, when the Japanese colonial administration established a small teaching branch in Jiali under Hemei Elementary School. A second branch was established in nearby Daxiatian in 1930, and the two merged in 1937 to form "和美庄大嘉公學校" through the efforts of local gentry. The school was renamed multiple times through Taiwan's political transitions before finally becoming "彰化縣和美鎮大嘉國民小學" in 1968 — its current name — making it nearly a century old and historically a small rural farming-community school.

From rice fields to light industry.
Dajia Elementary serves a community in Hemei Township historically known for producing "three harvests a year" (一年三穫) of crops. After World War II, the area diversified beyond farming into light manufacturing — textiles, hardware, and umbrellas — mirroring a broader shift across the region from agriculture to small industry. See the Changhua county page for more on the region.
