Raised by the community, oxcart by oxcart.

Dahu Elementary opened in 1958 as a branch of Zhonghe Elementary School, with its earliest classes held in a temple annex where students sat on bamboo chairs. The original school site, a former Japanese-era agricultural lecture facility, sat on low-lying land that villagers leveled using oxcarts and manual labor before construction could begin. The school became independent in 1962 under its first official principal, Cai Zhiming, and later weathered damage from Typhoon Wayne in 1986, rebuilding with new facilities constructed between 1978 and 1980.
