A young school with an old name and a famous song.
Dadun Junior High opened in 2010, one of the newer schools built as Nantun District continued its rapid growth. Its school song, “Forest of Hope” (希望森林), was written by celebrity Mandopop lyricist Fangwenshan, with music composed by singer Yuan Yong-lin — an unusual pairing of pop-culture talent with a public junior high school. The school's own name, “Dadun” (大墩, Big Mound), recalls the old Qing-dynasty name for the area that grew into modern central Taichung, linking a brand-new campus to the city's historic toponym.
