An organic-minded school in pomelo country.
Qiaohe Elementary was established around 1950–1951, in the years just after Taiwan's retrocession, and has since grown into a steady presence for families in Citong Township. The school is best known today for its "organic ecological campus" program, where students tend vegetable gardens as part of their everyday learning, alongside a distinctive lineup of activity courses that includes diabolo spinning, mountain education, and tree climbing.
What makes this school worth knowing.
🌱 An Organic Ecological Campus
有機生態校園計畫
Students maintain their own vegetable gardens as part of a hands-on "organic ecological campus" program, connecting classroom learning directly to the soil.
🌳 Climbing Into Nature
攀樹與山野教育
Beyond the garden beds, the school offers mountain education and tree-climbing courses, giving students an active, outdoor complement to regular classroom study.
🪀 Traditional Skill, Modern Classroom
扯鈴課程
Diabolo spinning rounds out the school's activity offerings, keeping a traditional Taiwanese folk skill alive alongside newer environmental and outdoor programs.
Rooted in Citong's orchards.
Citong Township has long been known across Taiwan for its pomelo (文旦) orchards and betel-nut farming, and Qiaohe's organic-garden program ties directly into that agricultural identity — giving students a working sense of the crops and land that shape daily life around them. See the Yunlin county page for more on the region.
