A school shaped by change, standing next to living history.
Chengde traces its roots to 1966, when it opened as "新竹縣立第一中學新竹分部," a branch of Hsinchu County First Middle School. It became an independent school in 1968, converted into a complete junior-senior high school in 1996, and took on its current name in 2001. The campus sits directly adjacent to the grounds of the historic Hsinchu Shrine (新竹神社), a reminder of the site's Japanese-era past.

The campus grounds neighbor the former Hsinchu Shrine (新竹神社) site, and a 111+ year old black pine tree, planted in 1903 and tied to the passage of Japanese Prince Kitashirakawa's forces through the area, still grows on campus as a city-protected tree. See the Hsinchu City page for more on the region.
