An unlikely pioneer of Taiwan's public Waldorf education.
Chaocuo Elementary began as a branch of Longyan Elementary School, becoming independent in 1975. In 2011, it made a bold transformation, becoming Taiwan's first publicly-run, publicly-funded experimental Waldorf school. The school uses no standard textbooks and divides its school year into four seasonal terms marked by festivals — an alternative pedagogy unusual to find in rural Yunlin, let alone in a small farming township like Baozhong.

🛕 Named for a Local Temple
得名自潮陽宮
The school takes its name from the local Chaoyang Temple, which historically supported the school — a tie between its innovative present and traditional roots.
Baozhong, home of Yunlin's pickled mustard greens.
Named for the local Chaoyang Temple that historically supported the school, Chaocuo Waldorf sits in Baozhong's rice- and garlic-farming countryside while offering an alternative pedagogy unusual for rural Yunlin. Baozhong Township is also widely known across Taiwan for suan cai (pickled mustard greens). See the Yunlin county page for more on the region.
