The newest school on the block.
Buzi Elementary is the newest school in this part of Beitun District, established in 2018 and welcoming its first students in 2020. It was built specifically to relieve overcrowding as Buzi Village became one of Taichung's fastest-growing neighborhoods, with new high-rise housing rapidly replacing what was once open farmland. Within a few years of opening, the school had already grown to roughly 26 classes and 781 students.
What makes this school worth knowing.
🏗️ Built to Beat Overcrowding
為紓解爆滿而設校
The school exists because Buzi Village's population boomed faster than nearby schools could handle, making it a direct response to one of Beitun's most dramatic growth spurts.
📈 Growing Fast From Day One
開學即快速成長
Within a short time of its 2020 opening, enrollment had already reached about 26 classes and 781 students — a pace that mirrors the surrounding neighborhood's own rapid expansion.
🏢 A Sugar-Mill Name in a High-Rise Era
舊糖廍地名遇上新式高樓
The school's name preserves "buzi" (廍), an old term for a sugar-processing mill, even as the neighborhood around it has been transformed into a landscape of new apartment towers.
From sugar mill to suburb.
The school's founding traces the rapid suburbanization of Buzi Village — an old sugar-mill ("廍") place-name now surrounded by new high-rise housing developments, one of the clearest examples of Beitun's recent transformation. See the Taichung county page for more on the region.
