A century of history, rooted in a temple.

Beitun Elementary School's history stretches back to 1904, when it began as a branch teaching site of Sizhangli Public School (四張犁公學校), housed at the Confucian Wenchang Temple (文昌廟) in the historic Sizhangli settlement. It became independent in 1913, was renamed Beitun Public School (北屯公學校) in 1921 under Japanese rule, and took its current name in 1968. The school celebrated its centennial in 2003 and, during the Japanese colonial era, was the only school in the Dadun district to offer a "higher course" equivalent to junior-high-level education. Over the decades it has spun off several satellite schools, including Qiaoxiao Elementary School.
