Funding for the school's founding came in part from donations by overseas Chinese communities, reflecting mid-century Taichung's ties to the global Chinese diaspora. The school relocated to its present site in 1992 and continues to serve families in North District today.
中華國小創立於民國47年（1958年），設立於中台灣歷經八七水災重創後的災後重建時期。建校經費部分來自海外華僑捐款，展現1950年代台中與全球華人僑社的深厚淵源。學校於民國81年（1992年）遷至現址，持續服務北區學子至今。
