南陽國小的歷史可追溯至明治31年（1898年）日治時期的語言研習會，是北港地區歷史最悠久的學校之一。學校於民國15年（1926年）遷至現址，如今設有特色藝術資優班，專攻繪畫、水彩、蝴蝶藝術、木工與陶藝。歷經百餘年歲月，學校在悠久的辦學歷史之外，也建立起培育藝術人才的良好聲譽。
