A school whose reach climbs into the hills.
Beigang Elementary School opened in 1921 as Beigang Public School, during the Japanese colonial era. Its catchment area is unusually large for an elementary school, stretching roughly 10 kilometers up into the foothills of Wuzhi Mountain, and it historically operated remote branch classes at Baliang and Hongnei to reach children living deep in the hills. This sprawling reach reflects Xizhi's transition from a dense river town into scattered upland hamlets as the district expanded into the mountains.

🏔️ A Century in the Foothills
Founded in 1921 during the Japanese colonial era, Beigang has spent over a century serving families in Xizhi's mountainous upland communities.
From river town to mountain hamlets.
Beigang's sprawling mountain catchment traces Xizhi's historical growth from a compact river town into scattered hamlets climbing toward Wuzhi Mountain, a pattern shared by several of the district's upland schools. See the New Taipei county page for more on the region.
