From Mackay's Oxford College to a modern university.

Aletheia University's history reaches back to 1882 — decades before the Republic of China era in Taiwan — when Canadian Presbyterian missionary George Leslie Mackay founded Oxford College (牛津學堂) in Tamsui, one of the oldest institutions of higher education anywhere in Taiwan. The school was reorganized as a four-year college in 1994 and formally renamed Aletheia University in 1999. Its historic Oxford College building, Li-Chi Hall, still stands on campus today and is preserved as a national historic monument. The university now offers programs across four colleges plus a Chinese Language Center.
