Zuoying Senior High traces back to 1946, when it was founded as Kaohsiung Municipal No. 4 Junior High School just a year after the end of Japanese rule. It was renamed Taiwan Provincial Zuoying Middle School in 1960, then Taiwan Provincial Zuoying Senior High School in 1970, and finally took its current name in 1979, the year Kaohsiung became a special municipality. Its campus address on Haigong Road ("Navy Merit Road") points to the district's identity as home to Taiwan's largest naval base. Today it is a coeducational school with special dance and physical-education classes.
左營高中創立於民國35年（1946年），初名「高雄市立第四初級中學」，正是日治結束後隔年。民國49年（1960年）更名為「台灣省立左營中學」，民國59年（1970年）改為「台灣省立左營高級中學」，民國68年（1979年）高雄升格為直轄市後，正式定名為現今校名。校址位於「海功路」，路名即點出左營作為台灣最大海軍基地所在地的身分。學校現為男女合校，並設有舞蹈班與體育班。
