A hillside campus with a centenarian tree.
Ziqiang Elementary received preparatory approval on January 3, 2001, and was formally established on April 12, 2001, with Chen Li-kuang as founding principal. Its school emblem, designed that August by then-Longshou Elementary principal Lin Cong-ming, draws on the I Ching phrase 'as heaven's movement is ever vigorous, the noble person ceaselessly strengthens themselves' — a direct play on the school's own name, Ziqiang, meaning 'self-strengthening.' In August 2002, a century-old camphor tree with a 4.2-meter trunk circumference was transplanted onto campus. The campus totals 21,473 square meters, but four-fifths of the site is sloped hillside, leaving only about 0.4 hectares of usable flat land, in the 'lower Guishan' (下龜山) hill area.

Named for the terrain that shaped it.
Ziqiang Elementary's hillside campus in 'lower Guishan,' where four-fifths of the site is sloped terrain, reflects the hilly topography that gives Guishan — literally 'turtle mountain' — its name. Its transplanted centenarian camphor tree adds a living link to that landscape.
