After suffering earthquake damage, the school held a joint groundbreaking ceremony for post-earthquake campus reconstruction on June 1, 2000, part of the broader wave of school rebuilding that followed the devastating 1999 921 earthquake across central Taiwan.
社寮國小緊鄰歷史悠久的紫南宮社區，是竹山鎮文化底蘊最深厚的村落之一。學校在地震中受損後，於民國89年（2000年）6月1日舉行災後校舍重建聯合動土典禮，成為921大地震後中台灣校園重建浪潮的一部分。
