Ruizhu Junior High was founded in August 1970 as a branch of Zhushan Junior High, becoming an independent school in August 1974. The school serves Zhushan Township's hillside Ruizhu Village, part of the township's tea- and bamboo-growing highland communities near the Shanlinxi forest recreation area. 瑞竹國中創立於民國59年（1970年）8月，原為竹山國中分校，於民國63年（1974年）8月獨立設校。學校服務竹山鎮丘陵地帶的瑞竹里，屬於鄰近杉林溪森林遊樂區的茶葉與竹產業聚落。建校以來歷經十二任校長，見證了這個山區社群數十年來穩定的教育發展。
