The parent school of Qigu's Qishierfen area.

Zhuqiao Elementary opened in April 1922 as "七股公學校樹仔腳分離教室," reorganized that same year as "七十二份公學校." Its catchment historically covered Qishierfen (today's Zhuqiao), Sangu, Yongji, Shifen, Kanglang, and Zhuzaigang. Sangu split off as its own school in 1950, and Shulin followed in 1970, making Zhuqiao the historic "parent" institution of the district. The school celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2022 with festivities including students climbing the campus's roughly century-old banyan tree, nicknamed "Grandpa Banyan," and an award ceremony honoring four distinguished local families.

A living symbol of Qigu's agricultural past.

🌳

As the oldest school in the Qishierfen/Zhuqiao area and parent institution to two other Qigu elementary schools, Zhuqiao's centennial banyan tree has become a living symbol of the district's long agricultural and salt-worker community history — one shared with the salt fields, oyster farms, and lagoon villages that surround it. See the Tainan city page for more on the region.
