A school that crossed the strait with an air force.
Zhuqiang Elementary traces its origins to 1945, when it was founded as a "children's school" attached to the Republic of China Air Force's Anti-Aircraft School in Guiyang, China. As the Chinese Civil War turned against the Nationalist government, the Air Force school relocated to Hualien in late 1948, and its attached children's school reopened in October 1949 as the "Air Force Dependents' Elementary School." The school came under Hualien County control in 1966 and was renamed Zhuqiang to honor Air Force martyr Wen Zhuqiang — a name it carries to this day.

A military-migrant thread in Hualien's history.
