A century-long lineage known locally as 'Nanzhong.'
Zhunan Junior High School's roots trace back to 1914, when it opened during the Japanese colonial era as Zhunan Higher Elementary School. It took its current form as Zhunan Junior High School in 1968. The school once had an attached senior high division from 1952 to 1962, before that division separated to become what is today National Zhunan Senior High School. In 1996, the school established a music class program, and it remains known locally by the nickname 'Nanzhong' (南中).
