From shrine grounds to a mountain hub's flagship school.
National Chutung Senior High traces its roots to 1946, when it opened as a branch of Hsinchu Junior High before becoming independent in 1948 and being elevated to a provincial senior high school in 1961. In 1951, the campus moved to its present site at the foot of Fengyang Mountain — the former grounds of the Japanese colonial-era Zhudong Shinto Shrine. Today the school spans roughly 66,407 square meters, runs both day and evening divisions for around 1,700 students, and stands as sister institution to nearby Zhudong Junior High.
