Chu-Pei Junior High began in 1956 as a branch of Xinpu Middle School, became an independent school around 1960–61, and took its current name in 1968 — making it the oldest junior high in Zhubei City, with a history stretching back nearly seventy years. In the 1970s, the school's brass band won first place in a provincial music competition, and in 1974, about 1,200 students and staff traveled to Taipei to perform at a national ceremony in front of the Presidential Office. The school has also won national awards in creative drama competitions.

竹北國中創立於1956年,最初為新埔中學分校,約於1960、61年間獨立設校,1968年定名為現名——是竹北市歷史最悠久的國中,校史近七十年。1970年代,學校管樂隊曾榮獲全省音樂比賽冠軍;1974年,約1,200名師生更曾遠赴台北,於總統府前參與全國性慶典演出。學校在創意戲劇競賽中也曾榮獲全國獎項。
