Kaohsiung Municipal Chung Cheng Industrial Vocational High School opened its doors on July 1, 1980, in Cianjhen District, offering training in machinery, electrical engineering, construction and chemical engineering — fields tied directly to the heavy industry that powered Kaohsiung's postwar economy. On the night of July 31, 2014, when a series of underground gas pipeline explosions tore through Cianjhen's streets, the school's campus was pressed into service as a relief and shelter center for residents fleeing the disaster.
高雄市立中正高級工業職業學校於民國69年（1980年）7月1日創校，設有機械、電機、土木建築、化工等科別，直接對應高雄戰後重工業經濟所需的技術人才。民國103年（2014年）7月31日夜間，前鎮區發生地下丙烯管線氣爆事件，重創周邊街區，中正高工校園當時被徵用為居民緊急避難與救援中心。
