A school built for a community of refugees and veterans.

Zhongzhen Elementary was officially approved on May 18, 1961, after a preparatory committee formed the previous year. The school was built to serve the children of the "忠貞部隊" (Loyal Anti-Communist National Salvation Army) — Yunnan-based irregular forces that relocated to Taiwan via Thailand and Burma starting in 1954. It sits inside 忠貞新村 (Zhongzhen Village), the veterans' and refugee settlement built for those troops and their families, a community now also known for the nearby (Zhongzhen Market) and its distinctive Yunnanese-Burmese cuisine.
