Founded beside a retention pond, growing into a music and dance campus.
Zhongxing Junior High was established on August 1, 1980, on a 3.43-hectare site beside the Taoyuan Farmers' Irrigation Association's No. 8 retention pond. While its permanent campus was under construction, its first classes were temporarily held at nearby Taoyuan Junior High and Ximen Elementary, before the school moved into its own buildings in February 1982. In 1989 it was approved to establish dance and wind-band classes to cultivate music and dance talent for the county, a program that continues to shape the school's identity today. It was renamed from a county to a city school on December 25, 2014, when Taoyuan County was upgraded to a special municipality.

🏗️ A Shared Beginning
Its first classes were held at Taoyuan Junior High and Ximen Elementary while the permanent campus was under construction, moving into its own buildings in 1982.
A campus shaped by Taoyuan's ponds.
The campus's original site beside an irrigation retention pond reflects the historic 埤塘 (irrigation pond) landscape that shaped Taoyuan's agricultural land before the district urbanized — part of the same network that once earned Taoyuan the nickname "land of a thousand ponds." See the Taoyuan county page for more on the region.
