Zhongshan Junior High opened on August 1, 1978, after a preparatory office was established the previous year under founding director Wang Xuepin. The school sits beside the MRT Zhongshan Junior High Station on the Wenhu (Brown) Line, in the residential heart of Songshan built up after Taiwan's 1968 nine-year compulsory education reform. New campus buildings completed between 2018 and 2021 — named "迎曦樓," "御風樓," "寰宇樓," and "捷思樓" — modernized the school's facilities.
中山國中於民國67年（1978年）8月1日創校，前一年（民國66年）即由首任主任王學平成立籌備處。學校緊鄰捷運文湖線中山國中站，位於松山區因民國57年（1968年）九年國教改革而發展起來的住宅核心地帶。民國107年至110年（2018–2021年）間陸續完工的「迎曦樓」、「御風樓」、「寰宇樓」與「捷思樓」，為校園帶來全新面貌。

Zhongshan is the alma mater of Wang Chi-lin and Lee Yang, who won back-to-back Olympic badminton doubles golds at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 — honored in the campus's "Lin-Yang Hall" badminton gym, opened in 2021.
