It is a small rural school in the farming villages that ring Dalin, the former sugar-town center of the township. 中林國小創立於民國50年（1961年）1月1日，並於約2011年舉辦建校五十週年校慶。學校位於大林鎮舊糖業市中心外圍的農村地帶，以結合在地楓樹景觀的「賞楓閱讀生態運動小棧」聞名，並設有專屬桌球運動培訓，學生曾在科展、書法、美術、英語閱讀與演說及母語日等競賽中屢獲肯定。
