Zhongliao Elementary was founded on March 31, 1916 as a branch of Nantou Public School, with its first classes held at the local Zushi Temple (祖師廟). The school celebrated its centennial on March 30, 2016. Totally destroyed in the 1999 921 earthquake, it was rebuilt with funding from the TVBS Charity Foundation, backed by 56,214 individual donors and roughly NT$150 million — a reconstruction effort that became one of the most widely recognized symbols of Nantou's post-quake recovery.
中寮國小創立於民國5年（1916年）3月31日，前身為南投公學校分校，最初在地方祖師廟開班授課。學校於民國105年（2016年）3月30日舉辦建校百週年慶祝活動。校舍在民國88年（1999年）921大地震中全毀，後由TVBS愛心基金會援建重建，共有56,214名捐款人響應，募得約新台幣1.5億元，成為南投災後重建最具代表性的地標之一。
