Zhongli Junior High School

Despite its name, this nearly 90-year-old school sits in Pingzhen District — tracing back to a 1934 agricultural training school for the district's farming communities.

A name that doesn't match its home district.

Zhongli Junior High was founded in 1934, during the Japanese colonial era, as the "Hsinchu Prefecture Zhongli Agricultural Village National School" — despite the Zhongli name, the campus has always stood in what is now Pingzhen District. In 1941 it became an agricultural vocational school, and after Japan's surrender in 1945 was reorganized as the "Hsinchu County Zhongli Junior Agricultural Vocational School," upgraded to a senior agricultural vocational school in 1951. In July 1968, as Taiwan rolled out nine-year compulsory education nationwide, the school converted into a standard junior high school, and a supplementary night-school division was added in 1973. With roughly 90 years of continuous institutional history, it is one of the oldest schools in the district.

Zhongli Junior High's roots as an agricultural training school reflect Pingzhen's historically farming-based economy, long before the postwar industrial parks that reshaped the district's economy and population. Its near-90-year history makes it a living thread connecting Pingzhen's rural past to its urbanized present.
