From branch campus to independent school.
Zhongcheng Elementary began in 1962 as a branch campus of Yuli Elementary School, initially serving grades 1 through 4 with just 108 students. Growth came quickly: within a year, the branch became fully independent, and its first principal, Lin Zhen-xing, was appointed in 1963. The school took its current name in 1968, and has served the town-center community of Yuli ever since.
中城國小於民國51年（1962年）以玉里國小分校形式設立，初期僅招收一至四年級學生，共108人。發展相當迅速：不到一年，分校便正式獨立設校，首任校長林振興於民國52年（1963年）到任。學校於民國57年（1968年）確立現名，自此持續服務玉里鎮中心地區的社區學童。

Zhongcheng Elementary serves families in Yuli Township 玉里鎮, a rice-farming and hot-springs town in Hualien's Hua-Tung Valley near the Tropic of Cancer. Like many of Yuli's schools, its history reflects the rapid growth of the town's educational system in the mid-20th century as the valley's population expanded.
