A school whose name changed with the island's history.
Zhengyi Elementary originated in 1924 as the private "Shangqing Elementary School," run out of a borrowed ancestral temple. It closed under Japanese occupation in 1938 and reopened in 1945. In 1950, when Nationalist forces arrived on Kinmen, it was renamed "Chenkeng Elementary School," before becoming "Zhengyi Elementary School" in 1960 amid administrative consolidation. The school went through periods as a satellite or branch campus, regaining independent status in 1998. Major campus works followed in 1964, 1967, 1989, and 1991–92, and the school has held a 93rd-anniversary celebration.
