Zhangyuan Elementary was founded in April 1926, during the Japanese colonial era, as "Guizilü Public School." The school recently marked its 100th anniversary, a milestone shared by several schools along this stretch of coast that trace their history to the same colonial-era school-building period. It sits in Zhangyuan Village, the northernmost community in Changbin Township, near the boundary with Hualien County — making it, geographically, one of the first schools travelers reach entering Taitung from the north along the coast road.
樟原國小創立於民國15年（1926年）4月，日治時期名為「貴子鹿公學校」。學校近年慶祝建校百週年，這也是東海岸沿線多所學校共同的里程碑，皆源自同一波日治時期的興學浪潮。學校位於樟原村，是長濱鄉最北端的聚落，緊鄰花蓮縣界——沿海岸公路從北方進入臺東的旅人，這裡往往是最先經過的學校之一。
