From a mountain branch class to an independent school.
Tanwen Elementary began in 1950 as a branch class of Zaoqiao National School, holding its first classes from May 1951 to shorten the long walk local children faced to reach the main campus. It became an independent school in 1955. The school went on to establish its own branch, Longsheng, in 1972 — which became independent in 1979. Tanwen's own campus was rebuilt following damage from the 1999 921 earthquake, with reconstruction completed in 2003.
談文國小前身為1950年設立的造橋國校分班，1951年5月正式開課，目的是縮短當地學童往返本校上學的路程。1955年（民國44年）獨立設校。學校其後於1972年成立自己的分校——龍昇分校，該校於1979年獨立設校。談文國小校舍在1999年921大地震中受損，於2003年完成重建工程。
