Rebuilt after an earthquake, rooted in the mango basin.
Yujing Junior High opened in May 1946 as a branch of Tainan County Xinhua Junior High School, located near today's Yujing fruit market and post office. It began with just two classes and 96 students under its first branch director, Chen Fu-zhen, and was renamed Tainan Municipal Yujing Junior High School after the 2010 Tainan county-city merger. On March 4, 2010, the school suffered serious damage in the Jiaxian earthquake; five teaching buildings were later demolished as unsafe, and the Formosa Plastics Group donated funds to rebuild three replacement buildings. Today the school is certified as a health-promoting campus with a dedicated native-language learning zone, and publishes its campus safety mapping and curriculum planning documents online.

At the heart of the mango basin.
The school sits in the heart of Yujing's mango-growing basin, and its post-earthquake rebuilding — aided by a major corporate donation — reflects the resilience of this remote mountain township's public institutions. Students here grow up surrounded by the orchards that give Yujing its reputation as Taiwan's mango capital. See the Tainan county page for more on the region.
