From a rural branch school to a drumming tradition.

Yucai Elementary traces its founding to 1918, during the Japanese colonial era, as a branch of Yuanshan Public School known as "Wai-Yuanshan Branch of Yuanshan Public School." It became independent in 1921 as "Yuanshan Second Public School," and took its current name, Yucai National School, in May 1946. The school built a strong athletic reputation in the 1980s, when its soccer team won the county championship seven years running, alongside a notable track and field program. Since 1993, the school has developed a traditional "waist-drum" (腰鼓) performance program as part of a cultural heritage transmission project, giving students a hands-on connection to a traditional Chinese performing art.
