A branch school that grew into its own.
Yuanzhong Elementary was established around the 1952–53 academic year as a branch of Youchang Elementary School serving the Yuanzhonggang area, part of the Kaohsiung city government's broader push to bring compulsory education within reach of every neighborhood. It later became an independent school in its own right.
援中國小創立於約民國41學年度(1952/1953年),最初為右昌國小在援中港地區設立的分校,為高雄市政府徹底推行義務教育而設立,後獨立設校。

🌊 A Name From a Vanished Port
校名見證消逝的港口
"Yuanzhonggang" (援中港) is the Japanese-era simplified name for the Qing-era "Wandan Port" or "Wanzhong Port," once a river-mouth harbor before land reclamation changed the coastline.
A name that outlived its harbor.
The school's name preserves "Yuanzhonggang" (援中港), the Japanese-era simplified form of the pre-Qing names "萬丹港" and "灣中港" — once the estuary mouth of the Caotan Embankment (草潭埤). The name is a quiet record of how Nanzih's coastal waterways and settlements have shifted over centuries. See the Kaohsiung county page for more.
