Yuansheng Elementary opened in August 2001 on land reclaimed from the former Yulon (裕隆) textile factory site, after local rezoning turned the former industrial plot into land for public use. The school was established specifically to relieve overcrowding at three older schools in the Neili area — Neili, Neiding, and Zili elementary schools — as Zhongli's population kept climbing through the 1990s and 2000s. Today it also runs a competitive district-wide athletics program (體育班) that recruits promising young athletes each year.
元生國小於民國90年（2001年）8月創校，校地是由原裕隆紡織廠舊址經都市計畫變更而來。設校的主要目的，是為紓解內壢地區內壢國小、內定國小、自立國小等老校在1990至2000年代人口持續成長下的擁擠問題。學校目前設有全區徵選的體育班，每年招募具潛力的年輕運動員。
