Yuanli Zhongzheng Elementary School was founded in 1944, during the final years of Japanese rule, as 苑裡南國民學校 ("Yuanli South National School"). It was established to serve students living in Yuanli's inland ("內區") area, who previously had to travel long distances to reach the nearest school. Today the school remains a compact institution of about 10 classes, continuing to serve the same inland communities more than eight decades later.
中正國小創立於1944年（昭和19年），日治時期名為「苑裡南國民學校」，設校初衷是為了服務苑裡「內區」的學童，讓他們不必再長途跋涉上學。如今學校仍維持約10班的規模，八十餘年來持續服務同一片內區社區。
