Built on farmland, built for growth.
Yuandong Junior High was established in 1969 as part of Taiwan's push to extend compulsory education to nine years. The school was built on roughly 1.8 hectares of farmland purchased in the Yuandingzi area south of Zhudong, with Yan Changkui appointed as its first principal in August of that year. More than half a century later, the school made history in 2024 when its team won first place nationally at the National Junior High School Basketball Tournament — Hsinchu County's first-ever national championship at this level.

Yuandingzi, part of Zhudong's growth story.
The school's founding land purchase in the Yuandingzi (員崠仔) farmland belt reflects Zhudong's mid-century growth as the commercial and administrative seat for the surrounding mountain communities, as agricultural land steadily gave way to new schools and neighborhoods.
