Named for the admiral who founded it.
Yongqing Elementary School traces its origin to 1948, when it was founded in Nanjing as a Navy Dependents' School (海軍子弟學校) by Admiral Gui Yongqing. The school relocated to Taiwan in 1949 along with the Navy's retreat, and was taken over by the Kaohsiung city government on August 1, 1966, at which point it was renamed Yongqing Elementary School in honor of its founder. The campus sits within the boundary of the Fongshan County Old City (鳳山縣舊城) historic site, near Shoushan National Nature Park.

Yongqing shares its founding lineage with Haiching Vocational High School — both trace back to Navy dependents' schools established by Admiral Gui Yongqing.
A living monument to Zuoying's Navy identity.
Yongqing Elementary is named directly after Admiral Gui Yongqing, whose Navy dependents' schools — founded in Nanjing and relocated to Taiwan in 1949 — also gave rise to nearby Haiching Vocational High School. Together, the two schools stand as living monuments to Zuoying's post-1949 Navy identity, and the campus's location within the old Fongshan County walled city adds a further layer of local history. See the Kaohsiung county page for more on the region.
