The district's oldest junior high, anchoring "downtown" Yongkang.

Yongkang Junior High traces its roots to September 1956, when it began as an extension ("分部") of Taiwan Provincial Tainan No. 2 High School under a wartime-era school-dispersal plan, with just two entering classes. It became an independent school in 1965 as "Tainan County Yongkang Junior High School," was renamed in 1968 to reflect the introduction of nine-year compulsory education, and took its current name after the 2010 Tainan county-city merger. The school now enrolls roughly 1,528 students in 53 classes on a campus of about 7 hectares, and its school color is blue. Notable alumni include film director Wei Te-sheng (魏德聖), known for "Cape No. 7" and "Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale," and vegetable-breeding specialist Chen Wen-yu.
