Born from a booming 1970s Songshan District.
Yongji Junior High School was established on July 1, 1977, with planning having begun the previous year under founding principal Chen Bidu in response to rapid population growth in the then-Songshan District. Note: since a 2022 merger created the separate Shuangyong Elementary School from the former Yongchun and Yongji elementary schools, Yongji Junior High School itself remains a distinct, still-independent institution — unrelated in current form to that elementary-level merger. Under its second principal, Zhao Jilin, who took over in 1988, the school expanded its student-life programs and teaching facilities.
永吉國中於1977年（民國66年）7月1日正式成立，前一年（1976年）8月即由創校校長陳必讀展開籌備工作，以因應當時松山區人口快速成長的需求。（附註：2022年由原永春國小與永吉國小合併而成的雙永國小，是另一所獨立的國小層級學校，與永吉國中並無隸屬關係，永吉國中至今仍為獨立招生的國中。）1988年起，第二任校長趙吉林任內持續擴充學生活動與教學設施。
