Yonghua Elementary School's preparatory committee formed on January 23, 1982, and the school was officially approved that August 1, opening the following month with six first-grade classes totaling 180 students. Its first principal, Li Tai-lang, arrived in 1983 from Ximen Elementary. The school was originally planned for a site on Yonghua Road, but relocated when the Xinxing public housing community was built nearby; its final site sits on today's Zhonghua West Road, Section 1, Lane 2. Yonghua held its first graduation ceremony on June 28, 1985.
永華國小於1982年（民國71年）1月23日成立籌備委員會，同年8月1日正式核准設校，9月即以六班一年級、共180名新生開學。首任校長李泰郎於1983年自西門國小調任到校。學校原規劃設址於永華路，後因鄰近新興國宅社區興建而改址，最終校址位於今中華西路一段2巷。永華國小於1985年6月28日舉行首屆畢業典禮。
