Built on the memory of a vanished pond.
Yongchun Senior High School opened in 1968 as "Taipei Municipal Yongchun Junior High School," moving to its present site — the former "Yongchun Slope" (永春陂), a Qing-dynasty irrigation reservoir in what was then rural Songshan — in 1976. It converted to senior-high-only status in 1994 and took its current name in 1996.
What makes this school worth knowing.
Uniquely among Taiwan's public high schools, French is a compulsory (not elective) first-year subject worth a full credit — a rare requirement nationwide.
🔭 A Rooftop Observatory
The school's "Yinghua Building" houses one of the few astronomical observatories among Taiwan's senior high schools, supporting its math/science gifted program.
⛰️ A Mountain Orientation Tradition
New students climb Elephant Mountain at orientation and receive a "summit certificate" from the principal — a rite of passage tying the school to its neighborhood landmark.
🎵 An Alma Mater by a Famous Songwriter
The school's alma mater was composed in 1997 by celebrated songwriter-producer Xiao Chong, after a chance meeting with a school staff member.
A campus named for a vanished pond.
The campus occupies the former "Yongchun Slope" (永春陂), a Qing-era irrigation reservoir in what was then rural Songshan. The school's very name and location record a vanished agrarian landscape — a pond that once irrigated nearby rice fields — that predates Xinyi's transformation into Taipei's modern financial core anchored by Taipei 101. See the Taipei city page for more on the region.
