A small coastal school charting a new path.

Yong'an Experimental School was founded in 1968 as Taoyuan County Yong'an Junior High, renamed a municipal junior high in 2014, and formally converted into "Yong'an Experimental School" starting the 2025 school year after the Ministry of Education approved the transition in 2024. The shift to experimental-school status was a direct response to years of declining enrollment in this remote coastal community — the school currently has about 158 students across nine classes, grades 7 through 9. It sits roughly 1.5 km from Yong'an Fishing Harbor, Taiwan's only fishing harbor with a majority-Hakka population, and has had 16 principals since its founding, with the current principal in office since 2019.

🔄 A New Path as an Experimental School

Starting the 2025 school year, the former Yong'an Junior High became "Yong'an Experimental School," a response to years of shrinking enrollment in this remote coastal community.

⚓ Near a Hakka Fishing Harbor

The school sits about 1.5 km from Yong'an Fishing Harbor — Taiwan's only fishing harbor with a majority-Hakka population — anchoring it firmly in the district's coastal Hakka identity.

🏫 A Small, Close-Knit Campus

With roughly 158 students across nine classes, Yong'an offers a close-knit learning environment shaped by its coastal, Hakka farming-and-fishing community.

Local Culture ·

A coastal Hakka community adapting to change.

Sited in Yong'an Village near Taiwan's only majority-Hakka fishing harbor, the school's shift to an experimental model reflects the demographic pressures facing Xinwu's small coastal Hakka settlements — a pattern echoed by school closures across nearby Dayuan District.
