From a settlement branch school to a cultural home base.
Yanwan Elementary began in 1957 as a branch of Beinan National School, established to educate the children of families living at a workers' vocational training corps settlement in the Yanwan area of Taitung City. It became an independent school in 1960. Since 2014 it has been designated an Indigenous-focus school, and today it offers instruction in the East Rukai language alongside a school wrestling program.
