Beside Guishan, the hill that changed its name.
Yangmei Junior High traces back to 1948, when it was founded as Taoyuan County Yangmei Middle School, adding a senior-high division in 1951. When nine-year compulsory education split junior and senior divisions apart in 1968, the junior division became Taoyuan County Yangmei Junior High (the senior division became today's Yangmei Senior High School), and the school took its current name, Taoyuan City Yangmei Junior High, in December 2014. The campus spans roughly 6.68 hectares next to Guishan Park, and several of its Japanese-colonial-to-postwar-era faculty dormitory buildings have been registered as Taoyuan City historic architecture.

🐢 From "Turtle Hill" to "Noble Hill"
龜山改名貴山的地方典故
The neighboring hill was once nicknamed "Turtle Hill" (龜山) for its shape; after local figures built the school there decades ago, it was renamed "Guishan" (貴山, "Noble Hill") — now a well-known local landmark.

🏫 Shared Roots with Yangmei Senior High
與楊梅高中同源
Both Yangmei Junior High and Yangmei Senior High trace back to the 1948-founded Taoyuan County Yangmei Middle School, making them one of Yangmei District's longest-running educational lineages.
A hill's name change tells Yangmei's story.
Yangmei Junior High sits right beside Guishan Park, and the hill's own history — renamed from "Turtle Hill" to "Noble Hill" after the school was built there — is itself a small chapter in the story of Yangmei's local development. See the Taoyuan county page for more on the region.
