Built by local fundraising, over a century ago.
Before Yangmei Elementary existed, local children had to board at Xinpu Public School or commute all the way to schools in Taoyuan or Hsinchu. In January 1900, local community leaders petitioned to establish a school, winning approval that May; Yangmei village head Zhang Yuxing led a fundraising drive to build mud-brick classrooms, and the school opened on September 24, 1900, as "Yangmeili Public School." It was renamed "Yangmei Public School" in 1921, "Yangmei National School" in 1941, and took its present name, "Yangmei Elementary School," in 1968.
