Yanchao Junior High was established in 1967 as an independent county junior high school (高雄縣立燕巢初級中學), and took on its present name the following year. Guided by the motto "Vitality, Innovation, Truth, Goodness, and Beauty" (活力、創新、求真、求善、求美), the school builds a strong sense of community with a monthly all-school birthday celebration held in the gymnasium, and today serves the children of Yanchao District, an area known for its striking mudstone badlands terrain.
燕巢國中創立於民國56年（1967年），初名「高雄縣立燕巢初級中學」，隔年更為現名。學校秉持「活力、創新、求真、求善、求美」的校訓精神，並每月在體育館為全校學生舉辦生日慶生會，凝聚校園向心力，如今持續服務以特殊惡地地形聞名的燕巢區學子。
