A century-old school, powered by the sun.
Xuejin Elementary opened on February 21, 1918, during the Japanese colonial era, as the "Wujie Public School Erjie Branch." It was renamed "Erjie National School" in 1941 and took its current name, Xuejin, on October 10, 1950. Today the school is proud to call itself a "century-old elementary school," and in 2003 it gave its campus buildings symbolic names as part of a broader identity project. A rooftop photovoltaic solar installation generates roughly 380,000 kWh of electricity per year — an early example of renewable energy adoption at a rural Taiwanese school.
