Xuejia Junior High began in 1956 as a branch division under the county-run Beimen Agricultural Vocational School, becoming an independent school in June 1960 under its first principal, Liu Chih. Construction of its current campus, which began that January, was made possible with help from local benefactor Chen Hua-tsung. Today it remains the only public junior high serving Xuejia District, a milkfish-aquaculture area anchored by the Xuejia Cixi Temple pilgrimage.
學甲國中前身為北門農業職業學校的分部，民國45年（1956年）設立，民國49年（1960年）6月獨立設校，首任校長為劉致。現今校舍自同年1月開始興建，工程獲在地仕紳陳華宗的協助。學校至今仍是學甲區唯一的國中，服務這個以虱目魚養殖與學甲慈濟宮進香文化聞名的地區。
